In their own words

I bought my ex demostrator 1.9 cdti model with 60'000 on the clock, it had a few nice little touches added by the dealership but by far and away the most striking thing that set it apart from other Astra's was its midspoiler on the boot lid. I had the car for 5 years in that time I got the car upto 209,000 miles. It did everything that I asked of it and more. The only reason I had to move on was due to a rear end shunt that CAT C'd the car. I was very sad to see the Astra go in the end as the engine was still running strong and wouldn't miss a beat. By the end it was running bigger brakes, air intake it was lowered and stiffened along with strut braces, egr delete. The Astra was mapped to 225bhp In my time of ownership it had a few niggles and parts wear out, turbo at 140,000, inlet swirl flapes (common fault on the 1.9 cdti 150bhp engines) it had x2 alternators (common fault) Considering that the car did numerous track days (including the ring in Germany) and top speed tests (152 mph on track not road!!) it aged very well, it was looked after and I think so long as you can find a looked after model the Astra will last When I had the Astra in it's 225bhp setup it would keep up and out do a number of performce car's. It would keep up with the Astra VXR no problems, BMW 330d no problem. The fuel consumption when I first bought the car was not as good as expected so the first simple mod was to add a DTUK box and that got the mpg upto mid 50's on my trip to work Bottom line: The Astra 1.9 cdti 150 bhp is an excellent alrounder that can easily be made even better. Very sad to see it go, I left the Vauxhall family tried an Audi A4 2.0 TDI PD170 Avant for 2 1/2 years was never truly happy with it, which is why I am now back with an Insgnia 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo 4x4 and the smile has returned to my commute and my partner has a Astra 1.9 cdti 150 bhp twin top
