Other Vauxhall Astra (2004 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

    That's a matter of opinion......

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like it. The roof mechanism in operation always stops the conversation.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I have always wanted a convertable and would buy a Twin Top again as I would have to spend considerably more for any of the other convertables I like. eg volvo C70.

What are you likely to buy next?

An ordinary Astra of similar spec without the low profile tyres.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £19,000

When did you buy the car?

    October 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

Had to drive a hard bargain for a discount. Trade in price of old car Astra 1.6LS poor.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Found previous Astras very reliable and cheap to run. Always wanted a convertable and this was the only one I liked without having to spend considerably more.

    What was the dealer like?

    Usual patter nothing special.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

A bit slow from stationary due to its weight and the low profile tyres make the ride very hard but I have got used to it. I also find it a little clumsy to drive around town When the roof is up it is easy to forget it is a convertable. Comfortable and powerful enough on the motorway or long journeys. Contrary to other reviews the leg room is the back is virtually nil with two adults in the front.

    What's it like to park?

Horrible. No view out the back.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Boot leaks slightly at the base of the nearside 'C' post. Doesn't appear to be leaking when stood but if you open the boot when wet the standing water drains off onto the rear window and is trapped in the seal when the boot lid is shut again. This water in the seal eventually finds its way into the boot when being driven. Water collects at the top of the nearside 'B' post and top of the offside 'A'post which on occasions, but not every time, runs into the car as you set off. Does not leak when stood out or being driven in the rain. The boot and roof seals have been replaced but this has not solved the problem.

What's most practical about your car?

Drives like an ordinary coupe when the hood is up.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The roof of course. Also like the auto lights and wipers. The heated seats on the leather is a must for the winter. The keyless entry system has grown on me over time. The sport switch does not appear to make much difference.
