The most frugal CC on offer is the 2.0-litre TDI 138bhp with BlueMotion Technology, which will achieve a claimed 60.1mpg, according to Volkswagen. This is adequate for a car of this size and is helped by the stop/start and brake regeneration tech. The most powerful petrol model – the 2.0-litre TSI with 208bhp and automatic gearbox – will achieve an average of 36.2mpg, which is still adequate considering the powertrain.

Volkswagen’s servicing costs and parts are both competitive compared to its rivals.

None of the models are particularly poor for emissions. The greenest model, however, is the 2.0-litre TDI 138bhp with BlueMotion Technology emitting 125g/km CO2. This means that road tax costs are reasonable, falling in to VED Band D, while company car tax costs are also acceptable for a car of this size.

Volkswagen has an enviable reputation for reliability and so we expect the CC to be a dependable machine. The previous model had few problems and wiith much of the parts and engines already used in other cars in the range, this model should continue to enhance the firm’s reliability record.
