In their own words

This is a very accomplished motor. For a start, it's a VW Golf. With room for your parents/friends/kids, and very fast, should you suddenly need to visit the Dr's - or A&E. It does everything extreamley well; it is spacious, practical, subtle, reliable, safe, smooth, refined, comfortable and well equipped. It has heated seats without leather. I was obviously too spoilt with my Mini Cooper S before - the previous generation (2) - and that was less fast, yet felt faster, and had a genuine beautiful sweet yet hot sound; was nimble and much more fun to drive in real-world every day motoring. And, I got 32-34 mpg! I thought filling up weekly was a bit of a gulp to get used to, however the Golf R has to be filled up every 2.5 days or 3 or 4 days if in economy mode. It has increased my fuel by £200-250 a month; over the £250 I allowed in the Mini. This is very painful; and this was not really possible to plan before hand. So the best thing I can do is, accept what can't be changed and enjoy it, be thankful for it. I get 20-25mpg around town; and up to 30 on a longer journey. I am sure the car has capabilities that are way beyond my driving standards, so maybe its too advanced for my advanced-pass driving standards. You may be thinking, why get a 300 bhp car and moan about mpg? Quite. But it just goes to show how incredible BMW/Mini engines are. The right mix of power and mpg. Thanks for reading - enjoy the rest of your life.
