Other Volkswagen Passat (2000 - 2005) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

That I don't have much money to spend on a car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Not at lot I think. It's just an old car to them.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, definitely. Although they have they're problems, most of mine were minor, and the 130bhp PD engine is the best diesel I've had. It's quite quick and reliable if well looked after.

What are you likely to buy next?

After 3 years and 50k miles, I replaced it with an Insignia. My old Passat drove better though!

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,000

When did you buy the car?

    October 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Car was in the upper end of the price range, but was in excellent condition with a full service history. Got a decent part ex on my car above book value due to its condition.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Needed a cheap reliable diesel car with enough performance and room.

    What was the dealer like?

Usual small second hand car dealer. Nice guy that changed the cambelt and waterpump in the price for piece of mind.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Suprisingly well for an old bus. Plenty of performance from the 130bhp engine and the 6-speed gearbox was quite nice. Nice feel through the steering and good brakes.

    What's it like to park?

Not too bad. Visibility is good but the saloon boot can be harder to judge how close you are at the rear.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

A few things, but I bought the car at 9 years old with 90k on it and sold it with 140k on it - a couple of suspension arms, radiator, EGR valve, glowplugs, aux drivebelt tensioner, battery, couple of water leaks that needed sealing in the doors.

What's most practical about your car?

Decent size boot for a saloon, plenty of space in side, good fuel economy - around 48mpg.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Automatic wipers, auto dimming rearview mirror, climate control.
