The Polo’s interior is simple and clearly laid out but lacks style. However build quality is excellent and it feels robust and hard-wearing while the blue backlighting adds an upmarket feel. Visibility is pretty good, which is ideal for town driving and the driving position is comfortable so should suit most shapes thanks to adequate adjustment. The Dune is available with some bright coloured seat fabrics and door trims which helps liven up the cabin (see gallery for examples) while the switches and controls feel robust and durable.

Interior space is identical to the standard Polo and this means it can seat four adult passengers – or two adults, with three children in the back – in comfort. Head and legroom are good and there’s adequate shoulder room, too. The sports seats in the front are good quality – and available in bright attractive colours – plus they’re supportive in the right areas.

The semi-automatic air-conditioning – standard on all cars – does a good job of cooling the cabin on sunny days without draining fuel.
