Other Volvo V40 (2012 - 2019) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Hmmm, that I know to look a bit further then the usual suspects when looking for a quality hatchback, and prefer comfort and style to sports car like characteristics.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They all love it, wife is jealous of all the tech. (she has a MY13 XC60). My mate recently got a 2.5 litre TT and was a bit jealous when he had a drive in the V40.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes definately, although not planning to trade this in for many years yet as I only do low mileage.

What are you likely to buy next?

Not sure, probably another volvo, the XC40 should be available by the time i trade in.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £18,500

When did you buy the car?

    November 2015

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes - price listed was an absolute bargain, and got dealer to throw in window tints and a boot liner to sweeten the deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Ex management car with amazing spec and low mileage, would have cost £36k new. Really wanted D3 engine as the D2 was just a little underpowered for me.

    What was the dealer like?

Very good, came up with alternative finance quotes to make it more competitive, sorted finance quickly, delivered quickly. Small issue with cherish transfer but nothing major.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Fantastic. Quick, nimble and a great cruiser with the most comfortable seats on the market and some great support technology. It also looks so much better than the BMW 1 Series, Golf or A3.

    What's it like to park?

Really easy, with front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. I would spec rear sensors as a minimum as rear visibility is not the best, and the parking camera if you can stretch to it.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing significant. Has a little rattle in air vent on drivers side, also washer nozzles sprayed onto roof! Other than that is has been perfect.

What's most practical about your car?

Very smooth and comfortable to drive, with a very quiet engine and some serious power when needed. The boot is big enough for the dog and gym bag, and the back seats fold flat to allow a decent amount of luggage to be carried.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Nav for me is an essential these days (even if you know where you are going, it tells you if there are traffic problems), and I would say the reversing camera (essential as rear visibility not great) and also the sliding armrest in the centre console is a lovely touch, it makes a lovely clunk when you slide it forward, and provides a comfortable rest for your gear changing arm. The blind spot sensor (BLIS) is also very useful on motorways.
