Volvo XC60 (2023) review

In their own words

This is our 2nd XC60 having had an R Design Diesel 2015 Mk 1 which was good, this new model in vastly superior and much more refined. Chose the Inscription spec + Winter Pack as its more luxury orientated and we found the Sports Suspension harsh on the old model. Its rides very well on 19 inch 235/55 Tyres and the Pro has larger and wider 20 inch low profile tyres which can affect the ride. The interior of this car is a haven, has a truly luxury quality feel/build and the T5 engine is very quiet and refined and works seamlessly with the 8 speed Auto, yet with 250 BHP it will really shift when needed. We have had no issues in 11 months of ownership aside from the memory seats not changing when the car is unlocked but thats minor to us. The economy is not great around town at circa 25 mpg but I knew that and its a 250 bhp AWD SUV so no surprise, its quite good on a run and has no issue giving 36 - 38 MPG on a motorway run if driven sensibly at 70/75, runs even better on Premium fuel and gives a few more MPG if u r so inclined. The fuel tank on this model is too small at 60 litres and i think the latest ones are now 70 litres which means less time at the pumps. Its been down to the Alps and back and is a dream on French Motorways and effortless. I like the way you can set up the car in different modes for each driver on the keys so its exactly as you want on starting - its full of gadgets and the big screen is first class, fab stereo, space for its own SIM card so you can use all the Apps like spotify etc and its own WI FI hot spot with good signal, all the Sat Nav and apps just auto update. The Seats are simply superb with a myriad of settings and memory on both of the front seats, heated steering wheel and seats are so nice on a freezing morning and its even got air cooled seats in the Summer which are very nice. Rear space for passengers is cavernous and my son is 6ft 5in and has loads of leg room stil. The Volvo App is superb as well on the phone as you can monitor the car, remote lock or unlock and even start it in the morning from inside the house to pre warm. My wife finds this car very easy to use and the turning circle is miles better than the old XC60 which was awful. Personally i thinks its the best looking Mid size SUV and find the Audi/BMW versions less attractive looking which seems to be a view shared by the motoring press. Finally the emergency braking, autonomous collision avoidance and lane guidance all work very well, its a bit daunting when the car pings a warning ofk or starts braking or self correcting on a motorway lane but then you find it very reassuring! its once saved me on a Toll Barrier and stood the car on its nose much to our shock - Nice job Volvo. I think if they make a T5 Hybrid like the new Hybrid T5 XC40 giving similar power and with a 30 mile electric range it will be a perfect car, the T8 is overkill for most people. We only do about 8000 miles a year so this T5 works well but for high mileage drivers it will use quite a bit of fuel and the diesels cam make more sense despite all the bad press. Overall best car we have ever owned and highly recommended.
