The Ineos Grenadier is now available as a proper commercial 4x4, with all the customised vehicle now eligible for VAT exemption and lower company van tax.

The Ineos Grenadier had previously operated in a bit of a grey area, with the Utility model bearing a strong resemblance to the five-seater Station Wagon. This was largely as both had five seats and the Utility didn’t really feel like much of a van.

That version has now been dropped, with the new Grenadier Commercial replacing it in the line up. There are some big changes – notably the ones that you need to enact in order to turn a car into a van.

Van conversion

There are now only two front seats, with the second row having been removed. In their place is a flat loading floor that is separated from the foremost part of the cabin by a full-height bulkhead.

The windows in the rear side doors have been replaced by aluminium panels while the windows in the rear doors have also been blanked off, even though the latter is not legally necessary for it to become a car-derived van. The side doors can still be opened to access the front part of the loading bay, though.

The chassis mounting points for the seats and belts have been disabled, so there is no chance of you turning this back into a car again having bought it on the cheap.

That loading bay is capable of taking a Euro pallet, while the payload stands at 871kg for the petrol model and 796kg for the diesel. The towing capacity remains unchanged at 3,500kg.

There is the choice of both the 3.0-litre engines, with pricing starting at £51,931 (excluding VAT). As is the case with other Grenadiers, this pricing applies for both engines.

You can order an Ineos Grenadier Commercial now but this version is a UK special – you can only buy it in this country and it isn’t offered in any other markets.
