What are the running costs?

Charging times and prices for the Ford Mustang Mach-E will vary depending on whether you’re using a domestic wallbox or are out and about. For reference, the extended range, rear-wheel drive should take about 10 hours to charge at home, or from 10-80% in 45 minutes from a 150kW pump. This method also promises 73 miles can be added in 10 minutes.

The charge release button also has a ring of five lights to give you an idea of how full the battery is from a glance while it’s plugged in, which is handy.

Elsewhere we’d expect running costs to be quite low – using the regenerative braking means you won’t go through brake pads and discs at a rate of knots and the high-sidewall tyres should be simple to source. Plus, this being an electric car, you won’t have to fork out for things like oil or spark plugs.

Servicing and warranty

It comes with a three year, 60,000-mile warranty as standard. The EV hardware is covered for eight years and 100,000 miles. Service intervals for the Mach-E are every two years and 18,000 miles.

Reliability

  • US-reliability record not great
  • Bespoke platform
  • Lots of new tech

There have been several recalls for the Mach-E so far and the Mustang Mach-E’s early reliability record in the USA hasn’t been stellar. According to Consumer Reports it’s an average performer, and lags behind its rivals. However, the company says that it has already made notable improvements since the electric SUV came to market.

A Ford spokesperson commented: ‘We listen to all customer feedback, including Consumer Reports and the concerns raised by customers. The survey results were from a population of vehicles early in the launch of these vehicles and those concerns have since been addressed.’
