Although it feels a little narrow from the driver’s seat, the 2’s interior is especially comfortable and user-friendly. The steering wheel only adjusts for height (not reach), but the seat height can be changed, which means most people should be able to find a comfortable driving position. Visibility is excellent too. Although there are thick windscreen pillars, these are angled in such a way that they don’t obstruct the view.

The layout of the buttons and switches is simple, clear and easy to use on the move. Top models have steering wheel-mounted controls, making it easier to change radio station or adjust the volume on the move. Inside the 2 was given some very minor tweaks in October 2010, with the most significant being the introduction of more durable materials. Other additions like piano-black finishes give it a slightly better feel than before.

Mazda 2 comfort levels are surprisingly high. With good ride comfort and decent head and legroom, the 2 is comfortable for all on board. There’s space for three children or two adults in the back with adequate space. Only excessive road noise at higher speeds disturb what is otherwise a very quiet cabin. The firm ride is also another gripe – while it makes the 2 fun on twisting roads, it does come at the expense of smoothness on rough or potholed roads.

Updates to the suspension in late 2010 means the 2 keeps its fun element but feels smoother when tackling damaged roads.
