Should you buy one?

It won’t impress any of your neighbours and dynamically it’s nothing special. But if you’re not swayed by any of that, the MG ZS will make a brilliant first electric car for your family. It’s quick and effortless to drive, and thanks to a longer battery range more usable for more buyers.

Importantly the MG ZS EV is cheaper than its rivals with better battery tech than most. Team that with strong kit levels and a big deep boot, and it becomes obvious why it’s establishing itself as a good seller these days. 

What we like

The ZS EV is great value, and even if there are one or two minor niggles, you can’t complain for the money. It offers the benefits of an electric car wrapped up in a package that’s accessible, unintimidating and roomy – with the reassurance of that seven-year warranty hopefully quelling any doubts buyers may have about buying a Chinese-built car wearing a British badge.

The ZS EV’s practical interior is more useful for family life than many of its more expensive rivals, and the infotainment and tech are more than up-to scratch for the money.

What we don’t like

Those downsizing from a luxury car won’t be too impressed by the ZS EV’s slightly low-rent interior. Minor rattles and noisy ride at motorway speeds are irritating.
