Peugeot 308 Hatchback (2007-2013) running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
List prices seem fairly steep when compared to many rivals including the Fiat Bravo and Citroen C4. However the engines are quite economical particularly the 1.6-litre 110bhp e-HDi version that will return over 70mpg on average. Insurance is reasonable as are parts and servicing costs.
The e-HDi is the pick of the bunch with CO2 emissions of 98g/km. Peugeot has reduced weight on the 308 range by an average of 25kgs in order to achieve the tax-free emissions rating. Petrol versions and the 2.0 HDi diesel are competitive on emissions considering their power outputs and 99% of the vehicle’s weight is made up of easily recyclable materials.
Peugeot has been working to improve reliability and early indications with new products show things are getting better. But we wouldn’t be surprised to find owners with occasional or minor problems on the 308. There have already been a few recalls.
