Should you buy a Peugeot E-3008?

The Peugeot E-3008 is one of the best looking electric SUVs around both inside and it, but does that alone make it a great choice? We’d argue not. It is a compelling visual package but it’s not as well-executed as we’d have hoped. The ride quality is poor, and especially disappointing for Peugeot given its typically comfortable cars. It’s also not as spacious as you’d expect for a car that’s designed for families. A high price means that for all of the E-3008’s positives, it’s quite a tough choice to recommend in a class filled with excellent rivals like the Skoda Enyaq iV.

It’s far from being a bad car, however, and we think that the mild-hybrid 3008 could be a far better choice as it will be much cheaper to buy, potentially ride better and still have the same exceptional interior.

What we like

The new E-3008’s interior is one of the best we’ve seen in recent years. It not only looks superb but has excellent ergonomics to go with it and feels like an especially premium product with its upmarket materials. The new 3008’s rakish coupe-like styling is also well on-trend. And if EV doesn’t feel right for you, the choice of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions is useful to have.

What we don’t like

Most of our grievances with the E-3008 stem around the way it drives. This is a heavy car but this fact hasn’t been disguised and the unsettled ride doesn’t suit UK roads, and especially in urban driving where most of these cars are inevitably used. It’s fairly average in the practicality stakes and (interior aside) doesn’t feel a significant step forward compared to the old car. Given it’s the first time we’ve seen this new Stellantis platform, it doesn’t make us massively optimistic for the future.
