SEAT Ateca verdict
Should you buy one?
Even though it’s getting on in years, the SEAT Ateca is still a great family SUV. It offers sharp styling, relatively compact dimensions and one of the most spacious interiors in its class. It’s also better to drive than most of its rivals and it has a well-equipped (and well-built) interior.
The car’s sporty focus sets it apart from its rivals, but SEAT hasn’t let that get in the way of more sensible concerns like fuel economy. The diesels are your best choice if you’re a hypermiler, but the 1.5-litre petrol offers a good blend of performance and frugality. However, If you want a little more comfort, the mechanically similar Skoda Karoq is a closer call.
What we like
All Atecas come well-equipped – and they’re surprisingly good value, with SEAT offering some impressive monthly deals. We also like how well the car drives, being particularly fond of its quick steering and composed suspension setup.
What we don’t like
The Ateca’s ride is bordering on too firm for the UK’s rough roads. The interior is also a little dark and dull (especially if you don’t opt for the panoramic sunroof), while the infotainment system looks a little outdated next to newer rivals.
