Are you in the market for a £44k Isuzu D-Max? That’s before tax, by the way. No? That probably explains why there’s only ever going to be 10 of these new D-Max Arctic Trucks Stealth special editions.
Stealth by name, not so stealthy by nature, as this extreme new Isuzu is based on its existing AT35 conversion and has just been revealed at the CV Show 2018.
What’s special about the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks Stealth?
When the starting point is an AT35 model with lifted suspension, 35-inch tyres and bulging bodywork you know you’re in for a bit of a treat.
Justifying the name, the whole thing is finished in black – from the Cosmic Black bodywork to the de-chromed detailing, it’s now so devoid of colour on the outside you’re likely to lose it on a dark night. Which would be a shame given how much it costs.

- Side steps
- Front grille
- Front foglight surrounds
- Door handles
- Door mirrors
- Rear bumper trim
- Front Isuzu badge
- Rear Arctic Trucks badges
Even the standard Isuzu tailgate decal has been stripped off, while the black sports bar and black mountain top roller cover for the load area are both standard equipment.
Should you need some light in all that darkness, however, the Stealth more than obliges, as it features LED headlights plus two sets of Laser auxiliary lights – one lot on the front bumper, the other mounted on the sports bar.
All it needs is some red neon behind the grille and people will think KITT from Knight Rider has been on a steroid bender.
What’s the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks Stealth like on the inside?
The Stealth is naturally based on the people-friendly D-Max double cab body, but cranks up the interior ambience with a full quilted leather upholstery makeover – which we have to say looked very smart on the CV Show stand.
Other features include a 9.0-inch touchscreen display (with Arctic Trucks logo), nine-speaker hifi with subwoofer and an HDMI port. We’re not sure we’ve ever known anyone to use an HDMI port in a vehicle, but there’s always a first time.
Does the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks Stealth really cost that much?
Hell, yes – the exact CV OTR price is £44,005, to which you’ll need to add the VAT if you’re a private buyer (CV OTR is commercial vehicle on the road, so does include road tax, registration fee, delivery and number plates).
With VAT you’re staring down the barrel at £52,806.
If it makes you feel any better, that’s still cheaper than the Toyota Hilux AT35 model also announced at the CV Show 2018, and that’s not even a limited edition.
Can’t stretch to the Stealth? Then the ‘normal’ D-Max AT35 continues to be available, priced from £38,005.
Any technical differences between the Stealth and a regular D-Max AT35?
Not really – but the price does include the automatic gearbox, which is optional on the regular version.
This means 35-inch tyres, lifted Fox Racing off-road suspension and extended bodywork of course – all of which has to be shifted by the D-Max’s standard 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine with 164hp and 360Nm of torque.
Add the weight of that fancy leather interior and all the black accessories, and you’d better like being looked at since this is one D-Max that really won’t be going anywhere fast…
