Volkswagen is showing off its entire light commercial vehicle line-up at the CV Show 2018, with a particular emphasis on affordable new Business Editions of the Caddy, Transporter and Crafter.

Elsewhere on the stand, which as per the previous couple of years is designed to resemble a house, show visitors can view a working example of the new e-Crafter electric van and the new Dark Label edition of the VW Amarok pickup.

VW’s headline act is its introduction of new business packs; aimed at lowering the cost of popular options on entry-level vans, they’ve on display here as Business Edition versions of the Caddy, Crafter and Transporter.

The packs will group together the most popular options for each of the three models including alarms, air-conditioning and parking sensors on all three models, with more included for the Transporter and Crafter.

Buyers can expect to make savings of £520, £510 and £1,320 on business packs for the Caddy, Transport and Crafter respectively, against the individual costs of those options.

This latest special edition of the VW pickup is based on the top-spec Highline trim but only gets the middle-ranking 204hp 3.0-litre TDI V6 turbodiesel engine – although that’s not ‘middle ranking’ in the sense that any other pickup builder would understand, as it’s still a very powerful truck.

Special features for the Dark Label include 18-inch ‘Rawson’ alloy wheels, matte black exterior trimmings, Carbon Steel grey metallic paint, side bars and rear styling bar. The interior is trimmed in Alcantara, and VW’s eight-speed automatic gearbox is fitted as standard.

The VW Amarok Dark Label is on sale now, priced from £33,650 plus VAT.

Drivers are faced with challenges set to test various technologies including the electro-mechanical steering system, trailer assist and side protect assist.

We think the new Crafter is a brilliant large van, and it took our Van of the Year award for 2018.
