VW has created a new Aventura special edition for the Amarok, calling the new model the ‘most luxurious’ version of the pickup that it has ever made.

If the Aventura name sounds familiar, it’s because Volkswagen first rolled it out for a concept version of the Amarok that it put on display at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show.

At the time we wondered if the concept heralded the arrival of a more powerful Amarok, courtesy of its 258hp V6 diesel engine. That engine duly arrived, but it has taken until now for the Aventura name to appear on an Amarok. It does so on a special edition that offers upgrades over the standard model both inside and out

What equipment does the Amarok Aventura come with?

The Aventura features bespoke design elements, with several standout features on the truck’s exterior, such as 20-inch alloy wheels, and a body-coloured sports bar with Aventura badging around the front of the load bay.

It also gets chrome-plated side bars, with LED spot lighting. Power folding mirrors and a protective coating for the load compartment are also included.

Inside it comes with VW’s ErgoComfort seats, which adjust in 14 different directions and are clad in soft Nappa leather. The steering wheel is also coated in leather and comes with something rather unusual for a pickup truck – paddleshifters so you can take control of the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The eight-speed auto is attached to the most powerful engine that you can get in an Amarok. Not only is it capable of 258hp in normal circumstances, this power rating boosts up to 272hp when you use the overboost function.

If off-road shenanigans are more your thing, then the permanent all-wheel drive will come in handy, too.

Other kit includes satellite navigation, Aventura branded mats, auto lights with a coming home feature that lights that stay on to light the way to your front door when you get home, separate daytime running lights and a cornering function. Automatic wipers are also included.

How much does the VW Amarok Aventura cost?

The Aventura is on sale now with prices starting at £39,960 (excluding VAT).

With a generous level of kit included as standard, and an already hefty pricetag, you might not feel the need to dip into the options list, but there are a couple of paint finishes that might tempt you. A matt finish, in blue or grey, can be had for £2,335 (excluding VAT).

A roll-top cover for the loading bay is also available, made specially for the Aventura model. You can choose from black or silver, and that will set you back £1,387.50 (not including VAT).
