Vauxhall Astra Hatchback (1998-2005) interior, tech and comfort

There’s an excellent driving position, with well-placed pedals, an adjustable steering wheel and good visibility. Only a drab, slightly staid, interior lets down the package. Everything is easily accessible and well put together. Seat is comfy for a couple of hours, but not as adjustable as a Golf.
Passengers should find Astra comfortable. The wheelbase is longer than before and gives one of the roomiest cabins in the class. Plenty of room in the back for a couple of adults. Seats are comfy and trim seems fairly childproof.
