Volvo is a Swedish firm synonymous with safe and reliable cars. The firm’s range includes C30 hatchback, the S40, S60 and S80 saloons, the V50, V60 and V70 estates and the C70 coupe convertible. Its latest model is the V40, a five-door hatchback that has proved popular with buyers of compact premium cars.

The company also has its rugged XC60, XC70 and XC90 4x4 vehicles – a selection of extremely capable off-road cars.

Now owned by Chinese firm Geely Automobile, Volvo started life back in 1927. Its first car was known as the Volvo OV 4, affectionately known as ‘Jakob’ and built in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Since then many models have been produced, each with the focus firmly on safety. The firm is at the forefront of technological advances in driver, passenger and pedestrian safety systems, with dozens of world firsts to its name.

Over recent years Volvo has become famous for its DRIVe range of low-emission, high fuel economy vehicles. Its range of hatchback, saloon and estate cars are all capable of impressive figures in this specification.

Furthermore, the firm is now building a range of electric and hybrid vehicles to drive efficiency up even further. The V60 plug-in hybrid is capable of 49g/km CO2 emissions with a range of 746 miles, yet will get to 62mph in 6.2 seconds.

As well as cars, Volvo also builds trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine drive systems.
