Despite the obvious Volkswagen switchgear, the A3 is an upmarket car and even the base models are superbly finished. The cabin design has aged well and although not particularly adventurous everything is well laid out and simple to use. Build quality is excellent too and the Audi cabin will last for years.

The driver and front passenger will find few complaints with the A3. The driving position is spot on and the seats are supportive and comfortable. However, if you’re planning on regularly carrying passengers then think again. There simply isn’t enough rear head or legroom to carry adults for long – in any comfort at least. On the motorway the Audi is quiet and the cabin is well insulated against wind and road noise, the diesel engines can be a bit on the noisy side however, especially at high revs.
