Audi Q5 SQ5 boot space, practicality and safety

2012 - 2016 (change model)
Practicality rating: 4.5 out of 54.5

The Q5 received the maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP testing so you can expect Audi SQ5 safety to be excellent as a result.

A comprehensive range of safety equipment is fitted which includes multiple airbags, tension and force limiters for the front seatbelts, isofix anchor points for child seats in the rear, a head restraint system, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes. The driver break warning system is standard, which recognises if the driver is becoming tired and warns that a break may be required.

Safety is further improved thanks to the additional traction offered by Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system and the SQ5’s substantial brakes.

Audi SQ5 practicality is impressive, with it featuring a spacious interior and a large boot. There is room for five adults, although those in the rear do not benefit from as much cabin room as those in the front.

There is a variety of storage points, including cup holders, dotted throughout the interior of the SQ5, meaning you’re rarely left searching for a place to set something down. A usable glove box is fitted, as well as a centre storage compartment.

Rear storage is rated at 540 litres with the rear seats up, extending to 1,560 litres with the rear seats dropped. This process is simple, thanks to a pair of easy to access and use levers.

The boot’s aperture is wide and unobstructed, with the boot lip being at almost the same level as the boot floor. That makes loading even bulky items a breeze. The boot’s practicality is further improved by a selection of a 12-volt power socket, partition nets, folding bag hooks and four lashing points. Under the removable cargo floor is an additional storage area, which is ideal for putting valuables in as they are out of sight entirely.

The SQ5 is also very easy to get in and out of, thanks to its high seating position and wide door openings. Further boosting practicality is the SQ5’s 75 litre fuel tank, which could potentially allow you to travel almost 650 miles between fuel stops. In reality, however, we’d expect to see a range of around 500 miles.
