Should you buy one?

If you have the means, yes. The Audi SQ7’s combination of speed, handling, comfort and practicality makes it the ideal choice for the petrolhead with a large family. And, providing you’re not using it to dawdle around town, it isn’t even desperately uneconomical. If you have the willpower to keep your right foot in check, we reckon you could push our 27mpg figure into the 30s.

What we like

The speed. The SQ7 is fast enough to steamroll low-end Porsches and Lotuses – and it can ride the coat tails of super-GTs like the Ferrari Roma and Bentley Continental. It’s comfortable, too. With the chassis in its least aggressive setting, the SQ7’s air suspension irons out everything short of speed bumps, making it a very easy tool in which to cover long distances.

What we don’t like

The touchscreen climate control panel is an unnecessary gimmick. It’s also mounted too low on the centre console, which means you need to take your eyes off the road to adjust the temperature. If you use the available performance too often and you’ll be constantly filling up, as well. Make sure you can afford the bills before you buy so it doesn’t drive you into financial ruin.
