  • Few physical buttons
  • High-tech displays
  • Excellent voice assistance

How is the quality and layout?

The iX2’s interior mirrors those of most current BMWs, with the German firm rolling out its decluttered design that includes a wraparound digital cockpit and touchscreen known as a Curved Display. The general look is very smart and modern, though some might prefer a more traditional display and more physical buttons, which you get with the Audi Q4 E-tron.

Our test car came with the optional M Sport Pro Pack, which brings details such as a black headlining, chunky steering wheel and upgraded sports seats, which all help to give the iX2 a sportier driving feel. These seats also offer a great amount of support, and with extendable bolsters, are ideal for taller drivers.

Infotainment and tech

BMW infotainment has historically been among some of the best around, and though we think the lack of physical controls – and loss of BMW’s brilliantly intuitive iDrive rotary controller – is a shame, the iX2’s infotainment is one of the best of the touchscreen-heavy type.

BMW calls it a Curved Display, and it merges a large touchscreen with a digital instrument cluster in a single pane of glass. It looks fantastic, and the main infotainment system works brilliantly. The screens offer perfect clarity, and contained are a variety of ‘live’ connected services such as weather and news updates, along with Amazon Alexa integration. You can quickly and easy search for the nearest electric car chargers too, with rapid units easy to identify.

BMW’s voice control, operated using the words ‘Hey BMW’, is also one of the best around, handling all our requests quickly and easily. It helps to make up for the lack of physical controls, such as for the climate settings, when you can use your voice to activate them.

Comfort

Despite the iX2 being an SUV, you sit quite low in the seat compared to many other cars of this type, though there’s plenty of electrical adjustment if you want to be perched a bit higher.

The leather seats on our test car were a vegan-friendly alternative, which BMW calls Veganza. They’re soft, and comfortable and feel an improvement compared to previous BMW seats, with no noticeable sacrifice on quality.
