Summary**---

  • Roomy, high specification
  • Disappointing performance and handling

Chrysler scored a big hit here with the 300C, which has uncompromising looks and delivers solid performance from petrol and diesel engines. Now the Sebring, the company’s first European large family saloon, arrives to go head-to-head with the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra in a keenly-fought sector of the market - but oddly, Chrysler prefers to regard the new saloon as a middle-management rival for the Toyota Avensis and Honda Accord. Sharing its proportions and powertrains with the lower-priced Dodge Avenger range, the Sebring has roomy, substantial bodywork and is well equipped, but detail finish falls some way behind European standard levels. Only one trim level is available, but the good news is that a comprehensive spread of equipment comes with the Limited badge.
