Summary****-

  • Premium feel, practical family car, off-road ability
  • Question mark over reliability

The latest Freelander offers a comfortable, premium car for a family of five with decent off-road ability. This is an all-new replacement for the UK's best-selling 4x4, and comes with five doors and the choice of a 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 3.2-litre petrol. It looks very similar to its bigger brother, the Discovery, and inside there is a real upmarket feel thanks to big, comfortable seats, top-of-the-range sound systems and push button start as standard. There are also several trim levels on offer: the basic S, the popular SE and the top of the range HSE. Unlike previous generations, there's no option of a three-door or soft-top.
