Overview

Peugeot’s 407 SW is a distinctively styled estate that stands out from the rest of the usually boxy estate crowd. It’s certainly different, but those looks aren’t particularly stylish and it appears ungainly – especially the long overhang at the front and the gaping grille. The looks also compromise practicality as the 407 lags behind other estates when it comes to boot capacity and luggage space is only slightly larger than the saloon version.

On the plus side it is well equipped and comfortable to drive, plus there’s a choice of some excellent diesel engines which are punchy and refined. The interior could be better, especially the cluttered centre console, while rear passenger space isn’t especially generous. In September 2008 the model was mildly facelifted and the trim levels were upgraded with a new SR model introduced.
