Renault takes on Vauxhall's Zafira and Volkswagen's Touran with a seven-seat mid-sized people carrier developed by stretching its five-seat Scenic by 198mm. It's a good effort too, with decent diesel and petrol engines, and a good quality, thoughtfully designed interior with plenty of family-orientated touches. It performs very well in crash tests and it's easy and enjoyable enough to drive. From 2006 the Grand Scenic is available with just five seats for those wanting the extra carrying capacity, but not the extra seating.
