The Antara is a five-seat compact 4x4 in the same mould as the Nissan X-Trail, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. It's essentially the replacement for the long-running and popular Frontera which has been off sale since 2003. There's plenty about it to recommend: it's comfortable, easy to drive around town and generously equipped. Unfortunately the 2.4-litre petrol is expensive to run, while the 2.0-litre CDTi diesel is noisy and crude, which means the whole package doesn't quite match what's on offer from Nissan, Honda and Toyota.
