Basic safety features are fitted to the Lacetti saloon, but electronic stability control is not available. The 1.4 gets twin airbags, ABS brakes and an immobiliser while the 1.6 and 1.8 come equipped with side airbags too. An alarm is an optional extra.

Despite the Lacetti being similar in size to cars like the Ford Focus, the boot is actually quite small with just 275 litres of space – that’s less than a Ford Fiesta. The high load lip and narrow sides don’t help things either but at least the rear seats split/fold to increase the capacity to more than 1,000 litres. The 1.6 and 1.8 versions have a few extra interior storage features over the 1.4 version such as a sunglasses holder instead of a driver’s grabhandle.
