Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 32 - 39 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Lacetti saloon is cheap to buy and run, although the lack of a diesel engine means that those covering large mileages may want something more frugal. But servicing is cheap and insurance reasonable.

The Lacetti is starting to show its age and that’s certainly the case in terms of efficiency. The 1.8-litre engine emits 183g/km of CO2 – very high for an engine of this size and power, while fuel economy is poor at 38mpg.

The mechanicals are fairly robust and shouldn’t give much cause for concern as long as the servicing schedule has been adhered to. There aren’t much in the way of sophisticated electronics, which means few worries on electrical glitches too.
