Volkswagen is offering to cut company car tax bills with a new version of the Golf.
On sale in June, the 140bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine is now offered in BlueMotion Technology trim. Thanks to the addition of start/stop and energy recuperation, CO2 emissions drop from 126g/km to 114.
As a result, the BlueMotion Technology version falls into the lowest 13% diesel benefit-in-kind tax band, while the regular 2.0 TDI 140 Golf is taxed at 18%. This means company car tax bills fall from £58 a month to just £42 for a base rate tax-payer. Fuel economy rises from 59mpg to 65mpg.
The BlueMotion Technology version is available in the new Match trim level, and also in GT guise.
The Match version replaces the SE trim level and adds £1,600-worth of extra equipment for a £300 price rise. The Match versions gain 16-inch alloy wheels, leather multi-function steering wheel, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors and touch-screen stereo with six-CD changer.
A choice of three engines is offered - a 1.4 TSI petrol with 122bhp and two TDI diesels in 1.6 and 2.0-litre guises.
The 1.6 TDI in BlueMotion Technology trim returns near-70mpg economy and CO2 emissions of 107g/km. This puts it in the lowest diesel benefit-in-kind tax band (13%) for the next two years.
