Renault has added a GT trim level to its Megane range, offering company car drivers a sporty looking vehicle but with the option of a frugal diesel engine.

The GT trim is available on Megane hatchback, coupe, coupe-cabriolet and Sport Tourer estate models, and comes with a choice of two engines - a 180bhp turbocharged petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel with 160bhp.

The models have been developed by Renaultsport, which is responsible for the company's more hardcore hot hatchbacks, and come with a lower and stiffer chassis as standard.

Other changes include the addition of new front and rear bumpers, 18-inch alloy wheels, body-hugging sports seats, aluminium pedals and rear parking sensors.

Prices start at £21,910 for a petrol hatchback, while the dCi 160 diesel hatch costs £22,975. This version delivers fuel economy of nearly 48mpg and CO2 emissions of 155g/km, putting it in the 23% company car tax band.

Renault is also offering drivers the chance to get the sporty GT look on Meganes powered by less powerful engines.

Called GT-Line, this option pack brings the sports chassis, 17-inch alloy wheels, deeper front and rear bumpers and sporty interior trim, and costs £1,290.

It is available on all bodystyles and is based on the Dynamique trim level.
