SsangYong has announced a new range-topping model to its Rexton W line-up – the ELX.

The new trim includes a number of enhancements over the previous range-topping EX model including a new beige/grey leather interior with matching door trim and carpets. Outside the car you get new 18-inch Diamond cut design alloy wheels plus LED Daytime running lights too.

Equipment wise, ELX models come with front parking sensors, a new leather covered steering wheel, auto-dipping rear-view mirror, heated rear seats and sat-nav as standard on top of EX specification.

The five-seater Rexton W has one engine on offer, a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel with the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox supplied my Mercedes-Benz.

It delivers maximum power of 153bhp and 360Nm of torque producing a top speed of 108mph for the manual and 109mph for the automatic.

Designed to provide low end torque whatever the conditions, the Rexton W is famed for its off-road ability and uses a body on frame construction featuring multi-link rear suspension.

Running costs are less impressive though with a 32.8mpg official combined fuel economy figure and CO2 emissions starting at 196g/km meaning a 37 percent BIK tax band for the current 2015/16 tax year.

“We are continually looking for ways to reinforce the SsangYong value proposition,” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK, “and this new Rexton W ELX adds a number of significant enhancements at very little extra money.  This highly competent 4×4 just got even better.”

Set to go on sale soon, prices for the new ELX model start at around the £28,000 mark.
