Peugeot has revealed first details of its next-generation 3008 SUV which will go on sale in November, with first deliveries expected in January 2017.
Based on the same underpinnings as the Citroen C4 Picasso and a forthcoming Vauxhall crossover, the new 3008 also debuts Peugeot’s new i-Cockpit interior concept.
Range of engines available
While CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures are yet to be fully announced, we expect the new 3008 to offer very low running costs. The firm has hinted that some diesel powertrains will emit less than 100g/km, making for low BIK tax bills.
The engine line-up is expected to include the award-winning 1.2-litre PureTech 130 and 1.6-litre THP petrols seen elsewhere in the firm’s range.
Diesels are predicted to take the lion’s share of sales, though, with the 98bhp and 118bhp editions of the 1.6-litre BlueHDI likely to be the most popular. There will also be 2-litre units offered with either 148bhp or 178bhp.
Both petrol and diesel engines will come with either five- or six-speed manual gearboxes or the firms next-generation six-speed automatic.
Initially, all new Peugeot 3008s will be front-wheel drive; a four-wheel drive petrol-hybrid is expected to join the range shortly after launch.
More space than before
The new Peugeot 3008 is 80mm longer than the previous version and offers greater passenger space, most notably for rear occupants, who now have an additional 24mm legroom, 4mm elbow room and 36mm headroom.
Luggage space has also increased to 520 litres and, like the previous version, owners can remove the luggage cover and fold the second row of seats flat to increase capacity to 1,580 litres.
Design-wise the new model features a sharper look with new headlights, grille design and bumpers. A new sound system by French specialists Focal will also be fitted, plus there’ll be smartphone integration available via Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink.
The latest advanced safety kit will also be offered, including a lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking and a hands-free parking system.
