What is miles per pound?

Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 37 - 39 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Materia may be well equipped, robust and only around in small numbers, but it still performs poorly on the used market. After three years and with average mileage, it’s likely to lose around 60 per cent of its value. On the fuel consumption front, it returns around 39mpg, which is about average for a 1.5-litre engine. Insurance and servicing costs are reasonable.

It performs fairly poorly for a small car, with C02 emission of 169g/km (176g/km for the automatic). Fuel economy is 39mpg – only average for a car of this size.

The Materia feels solid and benefits from Daihatsu’s long-running reputation for building durable cars. We don’t expect it to cause any problems.
