Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 37 - 54 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

With affordable prices, high equipment levels and excellent build quality, the ix35 is a great buy. Low Hyundai ix35 running costs may seem surprising given it is a 4×4 but it’s cheap to run thanks to economical engines with low CO2 emissions. However, be aware that the Style and Premium trims have differing emissions and consequently the latter is more expensive to tax.

The 2.0 CRDi Style emits 147g/km of CO2 (149g/km for the 4WD) while upgrading to the Premium sees this rise slightly to 153g/km (154g/km for the 4WD) – and move up one VED band as a result. The five-year warranty gives good peace of mind and is also transferrable to subsequent owners.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine with the stop-start manages a decent 44.1mpg and 149g/km of carbon dioxide emissions. However, best bet for Hyundai ix35 emissions is the 1.7-litre diesel engine with its 139g/km of CO2, but best for economy is the 134bhp 2.0-litre courtesy of 49.6mpg.

Hyundai has a strong reputation for mechanical reliability and is now backing that up with well built and high quality interiors. Like all models in the line-up and to further underline Hyundai ix35 reliability, it comes with a five-year warranty with no mileage constraints.
