The M hasn’t been officially tested by Euro NCAP, but with the high standard of safety equipment it should prove to be a good proposition for driver and passenger protection. Infiniti M safety is well respected though because all cars come with six airbags, while the driver and passenger get active head restraints to protect against whiplash. Premium models come kitted out with even more safety systems including a nifty blind spot warning that brakes the wheels to avoid a collision with an unsighted car that is passing.

It also gets distance control assist that brakes the car if it is getting too close to the vehicle in front and lane departure warning that warns the driver if it has crossed the white lines on a carriageway.

In terms of carrying loads it is a little behind the rivals. The diesel model comes with 450 litres of boot capacity while the petrol version has 500 litres on offer. The 5-Series trumps this with 520 litres and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is even better with a total boot capacity of 540 litres. The boot opening is fairly wide making it easy to get things in and out of the back but it can only be opened with a button inside the car or with the key fob; there is no button on the actual boot lid to open it.

There’s a decent amount of storage space with a good sized glovebox, moderate door pockets and a spacious centre console that doubles as an armrest. Visibility is good and it’s not so big that it’s difficult to manoeuvre in city streets.
