The CZT is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine – the same one that features in the standard Colt. However, it’s fitted with a turbocharger, boosting power to almost 150bhp and giving a 0-62mph time of 7.6 seconds. It delivers its power smoothly and manages to translate it to the road without much fuss from the front wheels. But although performance is swift, it’s not especially exciting and the CZT doesn’t feel as rapid as other small hot hatches.

Overall the Colt CZT has safe and predictable handling when tackling challenging roads, with limited body roll and a firm but forgiving ride. However, its steering feel is a major let down, suddenly providing more resistance when accelerating to higher speeds but without any extra feedback. This means the driver feels detached from the driving experience.

Compared to alternatives like the Fiesta ST, the CZT lacks the fun element.
