Should you buy one?

If you’re in the market for a posh electric SUV, this is a safe bet. You can tell that the lessons and experience Porsche learned from the Taycan have been poured into the Macan. So, while it might be Porsche’s first crack at an electric SUV, it’s an impressive statement straight out of the blocks.

It doesn’t feel like you’d need to make many excuses for why you’ve bought one – comfort, technology, handling, boot space and range are all covered off with a supremely well-rounded package. There might only be two variants at the moment, but they should easily cover most use cases. The Macan was a risk when Porsche chose to develop it, but that risk has disappeared because it’s so good.

What we like

The new Porsche Macan offers great ride comfort on the standard 20-inch alloy wheels, its interior is well laid out and it has plenty of storage space. It’s also great to drive and offers support for super-fast 270kW DC rapid charging.

What we don’t like

Ride quality takes a hit on the biggest 22-inch wheels – and it gets worse if you compound them with Porsche’s Sport Plus mode. Plus, the Macan’s coupe-like shape eats into boot space.
