Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 51 - 54 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Toyota claims that the Verso S will average 54.3mpg when using the 1.33-litre engine mated to the Multitronic CVT gearbox. That’s 3.1mpg better that the six-speed manual gearbox. Servicing can be quite costly as Toyota dealers are classed mid-premium and are more expensive than say a Vauxhall or Ford dealer.

The most eco-friendly option is the 1.33-litre engine with the Multitronic CVT gearbox. It emits 120g/km of CO2 emissions.

Normally you could buy a Toyota and be safe in the knowledge that it would be reliable but recently this squeaky clean image has been tarnished. The maker has had to deal with recalls on every car on sale in its range in the USA, and this has been compounded by recalling the Avensis, the Land Cruiser Amazon, the IQ and the Prius in the UK. However, this new Verso S should be reliable as the engines are proven as are the majority of parts.
