Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 29 - 47 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The TwinTop is no more expensive to run than a standard Astra. It uses the same engines, all of which are fairly frugal, except the 2.0T which is on the thirsty side with average economy of 30mpg. Insurance groups start at seven and go up to 16 while Vauxhall servicing and parts are both good value – plus there are an abundance of dealers around. It will also hold its value significantly better than an Astra hatchback.

The Astra TwinTop performs adequately on the eco front, with average emissions of 179g/km of CO2 across the model line-up. The greenest model is the 1.9 CDTi which emits 159g/km of CO2 and averages 47mpg.

The folding top was developed by the same company that makes the roof for the Mercedes-Benz SL, which performs impeccably. Vauxhall mechanical and electrical reliability tends to be pretty good and you’ll be guaranteed to be close to a dealership if needed.
