Overview

The Audi RS4 Avant is a flagship model of the Audi brand and with no saloon version in the pipeline this hot estate ticks all the boxes for enthusiastic drivers. It’s quick but you can also put a load of stuff in it. Under the bonnet the RS4 has a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 kicking out a whopping 443bhp and a pulling power of 430Nm. This makes this the fastest and most powerful Audi RS4 to date.

It’s blisteringly quick – it can get from a standing start to 62mph in 4.7 seconds and has an achievable top speed of 174mph. To help achieve this Audi has equipped the RS4 Avant with launch control which enables more traction and less tyre-scrabble making for a quicker getaway from a standing start. As you would expect the RS4 receives the usual design detailing typical of the RS performance brand.

This includes some flared arches and air intakes placed around different parts of the exterior. It also gets a twin oval exhaust pipe and roof spoiler for the rear. The sporty design continues on the inside of the RS4. From the off you can tell that you are in the cabin of a performance car thanks to the flat-bottomed leather steering wheel adorned with the RS4 badge, as well as the supportive sports seats.

The RS4 badges are splattered around various other parts of the car: the door sill trims have them just to give you those all-important visual reminders that you are in a car that’ll give Porsches a run for their money. The Audi RS4 Avant is quite a niche car and has only one direct rival in the guise of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG estate. The previous generation of the RS4 was lauded as being one of the best hot RS’ that Audi has ever made but has the added power ruined the dynamics of the car?
