The A5 Cabriolet shares its interior with the A5 Coupe. The materials used feel of exceptionally high quality and it’s meticulously put together. The folding roof even has a fully functioning interior light incorporated in the centre. However, visibility is impaired with the roof up by the broad area of fabric that would form the rear window pillar in the Coupe version.

All the controls are easy to use though – even the multimedia system which is operated via a dial behind the gear lever is intuitive – while the neat dials are easy to read.

There’s decent room for four adults and even without the wind deflector fitted (standard on SE and S line models), it seems remarkably free from buffeting at 40mph-plus. Electronic climate control is fitted across the range and the fabric hood is fully electric, folding down in just 15 seconds at the touch of a button. Putting on your seatbelt in the front is made easy by outstretched arms which slide forward once the ignition is switched on and it is also possible to specify an ‘acoustic’ hood which is further insulated compared to the standard roof, reducing noise intrusion to similar levels to a hard-top car.

Heating or air conditioning can be chosen for the front seats, while there is also a heated rear seats option.
