The new Punto (called Grande Punto because of its increased size) is a thoroughly competent small car but the real attention grabber is the asking price which is typically about £1400 less than equivalent models from its newest rivals, the Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris. Diesel models are priced to undercut other diesel mainstream small cars. Fiat says it won't be discounting the Punto, and at these prices it shouldn't need to. Look beyond the price and you'll find a thoroughly competent and modern car that's good to drive and has lots of character.
