How much does it cost to run?

Whether the CR-V makes sense for you depends a lot on what sort of journeys you do. There’s only one engine option – a hybrid, that’s available with either two- or four-wheel drive.

This engine excels over short journeys, especially those around town where it can run for more time on electric power alone. On longer trips, you’ll see economy trickle down as the relatively low-powered engine struggles with the car’s bulk at higher speeds.

As a result, combined fuel economy figures aren’t as high as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s, but you may well exceed them if a majority of your journeys are short trips across a town or city.

These figures look rather low in comparison to the Toyota RAV4, which is a similar size, more powerful and yet returns up to 49.5mpg.

They also pale in comparison to similarly-sized diesels, with the Peugeot 3008’s 1.5-litre diesel returning up to 56.3mpg.

It’s not all bad news, though, as time with the CR-V Hybrid has shown it’s actually fairly likely to exceed its official economy figures if driven carefully.

How reliable is the CR-V?

Reputations of solidity are hard earned in the motoring industry, and Honda has been cracking out reliable cars for generations now.

This CR-V has had three recalls since it was released in 2018. One was for emissions levels not being met. To fix this, Honda recalled more than 50,000 cars for an emissions control update. The other recalls were related to airbag and fuel pump faults.

If you're going for a used CR-V it's worth checking this has been done. Although 99.9% of cars will have had the work covered.
