The multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel fits in well with the character of the car and it’s not one of those oversized, macho jobs that compromise feel.

The dash is beautifully crafted and although it’s a visceral sports car, it still has that Jaguar style that isn’t brash and remote. You feel at home in this car straightaway.

With all this performance and thuggery you might expect Jaguar to have stiffened the XKR-S so much that your molars will be under threat. No, get this, on the motorway you’ll be treated to a smooth, compliant ride. It is firm, but still perfectly acceptable. It absorbs the bumps with ease and although it’ll give you a heart-in-the-mouth moment on big undulations, it’s still very composed.

The multi-adjustable sports seats offer excellent lateral support and you’ll emerge from a good couple of hours’ drive, feeling fresh as well as invigorated.
