Is it any good?

While technically not the top AMG performance model, it is possible to spend almost £90,000 on a CLE53. Even if a faster CLE63 model doesn’t come along, that is still quite a wedge of cash.

It’s also got a job to do to impress previous owners of AMG C- and E-Class coupes. Those were muscle cars really and, while the CLE53 is not slow by any means, it’s also a bit sharper and more agile in the handling department, which means it’s a slightly different proposition.

One area where it does deliver without any doubt is in the looks department. The old C 63 Coupe was one of my favourite ever cars largely thanks to its squat, wide stance (and V8 engine of course) and the CLE53 carries that flame admirably.

All things considered, I think the CLE53 feels comfortable as the top tier model, but whether it remains that way as the range develops is yet to be seen.
