Overview
Subaru may be more associated with high performance saloons and turbocharged rally cars, but it also has a heritage in making small cars. The Justy resurrects a name last seen in 2002 and this model is great to drive, cheap to own and well built. It’s actually based on the 2006 Toyota Yaris so has a proven track record for reliability, plus it’s roomy inside with a good-sized boot and impressive rear passenger space.
There’s just one engine – a 1.0-litre petrol with peppy performance, good fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The likeable Justy is in its element in town thanks to light steering and good visibility, but it also holds its own at motorway speeds where it’s stable and comfortable. The one fly in the ointment is that the near-identical Daihatsu Sirion and Perodua Myvi are cheaper.
