  • Servicing will also be inexpensive
  • No plug-in hybrid version available

How much is it going to cost to run?

By its very nature, the Mokka is going to be cheap to run – it’s either powered by a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol or a small and efficient diesel. If you want hybrid or plug-in hybrid tech, though, you need to look elsewhere. You will find an all-electric version called the Mokka Electric (formerly Mokka-e) which gets its own separate review.

MPG and CO2

The six-speed petrol’s fuel consumption (100 and 130hp) comes in at a Combined 51.4mpg in the WLTP Combined ‘real world’ test, and puts out 123-128g/km of CO2 emissions. Go for the automatic version and the former drops to 47.9mpg while the latter rises to 133-137g/km – as we said, reasonable efficient compared with its rivals.

The 1.5-litre diesel puts in an impressive set of figures – 65.7mpg and 114-117g/km emissions, but you end up paying a significant price premium for this model. Besides, the Toyota Yaris Cross is more efficient than both.

Servicing and maintenance

Vauxhall has a large dealer network in the UK with most towns and cities being covered by a large, well-equipped showroom and workshop. Its dealer network doesn’t have have the best reputation for customer service, although the company has been improving, following a reduction in the number of dealers from 2017.

Servicing costs for Vauxhall tend to be competitive, with some good upfront servicing packages being available. For complete peace of mind, in addition to the warranty you can buy Vauxhall Care, which gives you three years of servicing, two years of roadside assistance and a free first MoT test.

How reliable is it?

The Mokka is based on tried and tested Peugeot running gear, and the 208/2008 are both proving reliable. The engines give good service across Peugeot, Citroen and DS model ranges, and should do for Vauxhall, too.

Early signs for the Vauxhall are promising then, and unlike the previous model there are so far no safety recalls for the Mokka either.
